McIntyre Square
The McIntyre Square consists of 60,470 square feet of retail and restaurant space on 6.37 acres. McIntyre Companies, the property owner, anticipates rehabilitation of the entire center, completed in phases with the first phase currently underway for the rehab of the former Trader Joe's building. The Community Development Commission along with the property owner are currently seeking potential tenants for the unoccupied retail and restaurant spaces.


  • 9/2009: The demolition of the former Trader Joe's has been completed and pending building permit issuance.

  • 10/2009: Demolition on the spaces adjacent to the former Trader Joes building has commenced. In addition, the demolition of two-story building along S. Garvey Avenue has been completed.
  • 11/2009: The wood framework is underway with the roof framing having commenced.

  • 12/2009: The wood framing is nearing completion, and installation of the rough electrical and plumbing is underway.

  • 1/2010: The McIntyre Square is continuing the wood framing and installation of the utilities.

  • 2/2010: The wood framing has been completed and work will commence on the exterior façade of Building A. Renovation work has commenced on Building B. Tenants; Proforma Printing, Casa Jimenez and Le Sun Tanning Salon, are open during construction.

  • 3/2010: Construction for Building A includes electrical work and framing. Building B is continuing frame work.

  • 4/2010: In Building A, the stucco is going up in preparation for the brick façade. In Building B, the framing has been completed. Preparation for stucco work to commence.

  • 5/2010: The stucco for Building A's façade has been applied and have started framing for the side façades. Building B is being prepared for the application of the stucco. Interior demolition has been completed for Building C and have started the wood framing.

  • 6/2010: Building A exterior façade is nearing completion with the commencement of the exterior paint. The stucco for Building B has been applied. Building C is being prepared for stucco. Renovation of Building G has begun with the frame work.

  • 7/2010: Exterior paint has been completed for Building A. Stucco for Building B has been applied, next step is the exterior paint. Building C is being prepared for application of stucco. Frame work continues with Building G.

  • 8/2010: The exterior lighting has been installed for Building A. Exterior paint has been completed for Building B and Building C, and are ready for the installation of the exterior lighting. Façade renovations have begun on Building D and E. Wall sheathing of Building G and F has been completed and is being prepared for the application of stucco.

  • 9/2010: Buildings A, B and C are waiting commencement of site work in order to start installation of store fronts. Wood framing continues for Building D and G. Demolition commenced of the former Del Mar Restaurant.

  • 10/2010: Stucco work for Buildings D and G commenced this month. Demolition of the former Del Mar Restaurant has been completed (which is the location for Building F).

  • 11/2010: Buildings A and B have decorative lighting installed, Building B's store fronts are being installed. Grading has begun for the parking lot.

  • 12/2010: Storefronts have been completed for Buildings A, B, and C. Stucco is being applied on Building D. Building E's block walls are going up. Foundation work for Building F has commenced, with block walls to go after Building E has been completed. Building G's stucco and paint have been completed, storefronts currently being installed.

  • 1/2011: Building A: the plumbing trench work is commencing. Building B - the shell has been completed. Building C - Decorative lighting and installation of roofing is nearing completion. Building D - continuing utility work. Building E - The footings have been poured and block wall is going up. Building F - Footings are in place and waiting for start of block wall. Building G - Roofing is completed and decorative lighting is being installed.

  • 2/2011: Building A - installing underground utilities for the center. Building B is being prepared for the concrete of sidewalks. Decorative lighting has been completed for Building C. The façade work has been completed and roof work continues for Building D. The cinder block wall is complete and joists are being installed into Building E. Cinder block wall is complete and framework commences for Building F. Building G shell has been completed.

  • 3/2011: Concrete is being poured for the sidewalk surrounding Building A. The installation of underground utilities continues for Building B and concrete will be poured for the sidewalks surrounding it soon after. Exterior shell and roofing has been completed for Building C. The bathrooms in Building D are undergoing reconstruction to comply with ADA standards. Wood and steel framing is being installed for the interior and exterior improvements of Building E. The installation of joists continues in Building F.

  • 4/2011: Building A, B, and C are having the concrete poured for the front side walks and trees are being planted in front of Building B. Roofing is completed for Building D. Roofing and plaster are being installed onto Building E. Framework commences for Building F. Decorative lighting is completely installed on Building G. Construction has started on Buildings H & I.

  • 5/2011: The brick veneers are being installed for Building A. Paint is being applied to the exterior of Building E. Building F's exterior is nearing completion with the application of stucco. Wood framing is complete for Building H. Wood framing commences for Building I.

  • 6/2011: Primer is being applied to interior walls of Building A. Curb and gutters are being prepared for new asphalt in front of Building B. Building C is complete, is waiting for completion of the parking lot improvements. Building D is nearing completion. Building E exterior has been completed. The stucco application is being completed and the Storefronts are being installed for Building F. Building G is complete and future tenant County Club Animal Hospital has submitted plans. Buildings H and I are being prepared for the application of stucco.

  • 7/2011: Building A the landscaping has been placed, the new patio has been completed, and (one of the two) entrances from Citrus Street has been opened. Building B's landscaping is in. Building C's new sidewalk has been poured. Building D and E have been completed and are waiting for completion of the parking lot improvements. Building F's façade is being completed. Building G is pending start of construction for the County Club Animal Hospital. Building H is pending replacement of storefronts. Building I's stucco has been applied and the storefronts have been installed. The parking lot in front of Building D & E is being prepared for asphalt.

  • 8/2011: Landscaping, lighting, and façade improvements have been completed for Buildings A and B. Sidewalks are being prepared for landscaping and concrete in front of Building D and E. Façade and streetscape improvements commence for Building F, as it is being prepared for concrete to be poured. Decorative lighting has been installed onto Building G. The storefronts and doors are complete installed onto Buildings H and I. Parking lot lights have been installed, and the lot is paved in front of Buildings D, E, F, G, H, and I.

  • 9/2011: Building A, B, C, H and I are nearing finalization. Parking lot concrete is poured in front of Buildings A, C, E, G, H, and I. Decorative brickwork in the parking area in front of Building B is complete. Landscaping in front of Building B and H is also complete. The patio area has been completed for the restaurant tenant space in front of Building I is nearing finalization, and outdoor patio area has been completed. County Club Animal Hospital has started their tenant improvement work.
