Westfield Expansion

Westfield has been renovating the Westfield West Covina mall and is currently in its third Phase of development. The first Phase of the mall development was the expansion of the former Robinson's May space into an 180,000 square foot Macy's. Phase II consisted of transforming the vacant former Macy's building into a mini-anchor space for Best Buy and the addition of retail space totaling approximately 130,000 square feet of development along the northern façade of the mall. Phase II includes Best Buy and XXI Forever. Future tenants include the following restaurants Lee's Sandwiches and California Crepe and Pasta. Phase III extends the life style development of Phase II into the remaining northern façade of the mall between Red Robin and Sear's. Phase III includes the addition of approximately 32,000 square feet and the reconfiguration of exiting mall space. This phase will feature a second mini-anchor space of 45,000 square feet for a Nordstrom Rack and will include a Gold's Gym.



Best Buy

  • 12/2008: The former Macy's at Westfield West Covina has recently been demolished and is now undergoing grading for the upcoming Best Buy.

  • 3/2009: Westfield is continuing work on the steel framing for the roof of the new Best Buy, and installing interior walls for the retail space adjacent to the Best Buy store.

  • 5/2009: Best Buy shell is almost completed and tenant improvements have commenced with the steel frame work of the interior spaces.

  • On June 6, 2009 Best Buy opened its doors to customers.

Restaurants

Along with other retailers such as Best Buy, Yogen Fruz, and Intimate Basics joining the Westfield Expansion, 30,000 square feet of restaurants are expected in the Fall of 2010.

  • 10/2009: The grading has been completed and the underground utilities are being installed.

  • 11/2009: The steel framework for the restaurants has begun.

  • 12/2009: Westfield is completing the shell work for the retail and restaurant spaces in preparation for future tenants.

  • 1/2010: Westfield is currently finishing the exterior shell façade.

  • 2/2010: Westfield is nearing completion of the shell having completed the plaster for the exterior facade.

  • 3/2010:Westfield is completing the interior corridors and anticipates completion of the shell this month.

  • 4/2010: The majority of the shell façade is completed and has been temporarily wrapped awaiting commencement of tenant improvements. Lee's Sandwiches has signed a lease and is currently in the plan-check process for their tenant improvements.

  • 3/2011: Interior paint is being applied to Chronic Taco.

  • 4/2011: Lee's Sandwiches and Chronic Tacos are continuing work on their tenant improvements.

  • 8/2011: Interior framing and utility work has begun for Lazy Dog Café. Lee’s Sandwiches held its Grand Opening Ceremony for the public on August 20, 2011.

  • 9/2011: Lazy Dog Café is completing interior framing and the kitchen is nearing completion.

  • 10/2011: Landscaping is being planted along the entrance of The Lazy Dog Café. Exterior decorative brickwork, woodwork, and stucco is complete.

  • 11/2011: Lazy Dog Café opens its doors to customers on November 9, 2011. Lazy Dog Café welcomes it's four legged friends in their outdoor patio, complete with a fire pit.

  • 8/2009 The steel framework for the shell of the new XXI store has been completed.

Tower Records and Clifton's Demolition

  • 10/2009: Demolition of the former Tower Records building has commenced.
  • 11/2009: The demolition of the former Tower Records and Clifton's has been completed and have been turned into additional parking spaces for mall patrons.

Phase III

  • 6/2010: Westfield has started construction for the new mall development that will add approximately 32,000 of retail space along the northern façade of the mall (between Red Robin and Sear's).
  • 7/2010: Underground utility work continues for the third phase of Westfield's expansion.
  • 8/2010: The installation of the steel framework for the third phase of expansion has begun. Interior demolition of the existing mall space affected by the Phase III is anticipated this month.
  • 9/2010: Steel framing for the third phase of Westfield's expansion continues along with the demolition of the former Sports Authority.
  • 10/2010: Westfield is continuing the demolition of the former Sports Authority and finishing the stairwell section of the new expansion adjacent to Red Robin.
  • 11/2010: Foundation work and the steel framing for the Nordstrom Rack and Gold's Gym shell have commenced. A portion of the parking lot is anticipated to be completed and open for the Holidays.

  • 12/2010: The steel framing for the new expansion area continues. A portion of the new parking lot has been opened.
  • 1/2011: Framing continues for the Shell of Phase III, the exterior framing will commence this month.
  • 2/2011: Westfield has commenced the exterior framing for the shell of Phase III. Gold's Gym has started their tenant improvements.
  • 3/2011: Exterior framing is nearing completion and windows for the future Gold's Gym have been installed.
  • 4/2011: Exterior of the shell is nearing completion with the exterior paint being applied. Nordstrom Rack's storefront entrance has been installed.
  • 5/2011: Exterior paint for the shell is nearing completion, work starts on new mall entrance. The curb and gutter are being poured in preparation for the parking lot which is anticipated to be completed in conjunction with Gold's Gym.
  • 6/2011: On June 11, 2011, Gold's Gym opened for business. Tenant improvements are underway for Nordstrom Rack. Westfield is continuing work on the parking lot and new mall entrance.
  • 7/2011: The new mall entrance (near Sear's) is nearing completion and anticipated to open within the month. Improvements to the mall's main entrance (by Red Robin) have started and are anticipated to be completed by the end of July. Nordstrom Rack is nearing completion of their tenant improvements.
  • 8/2011: Signage and interior lighting have been installed and sidewalk is completed for Nordstrom Rack's north entrance. The mall entrance on the northeast side between Sears and Gold's Gym has been opened.

  • 9/2011: Nordstrom Rack opened its West Covina location to customers on September 1, 2011. In addition, Westfield celebrated the completion of the third phase of expansion, the new Westfield West Covina.

  • 6/2011: H&M opened its doors on June 16, 2011.

  • 7/2011: Gatten Sushi (1042 Plaza Drive) and SkinFood (252 Plaza Drive) have started construction.

  • 8/2011: Gatten Sushi has begun interior work and demolition.

  • 9/2011: Skin Food, which sells a variety of skin products composed of all natural ingredients, opened to the public on August 14, 2011. Gatten Sushi continues construction of their tenant improvements.

  • 10/2011: The revolving conveyor belt, which Gatten Sushi is known for, has been installed and is running.

  • 11/2011: Gatten Sushi held its Grand Opening Ceremony on November 11, 2011 commemorating the opening of their first West Covina restaurant. As part of the festivities a freshly caught tuna fish was cut and shared with customers.
