The following are Public Service Projects that were approved by City Council for funding in the 2001-2002 Action Plan. Additional information regarding business projects is available on the Community Development Commission page.
Meals on Wheels - American Red Cross
Providing homebound people with nutritious meals to residents in need.
Community Services Center - Citrus Valley Health Foundation
Helping the homeless (or individuals at risk of being homeless) to achieve and maintain stable sources of income, housing and social relatinships.
Careship - City of West Covina
Assisting low income residents with childcare costs.
Youth Assistance Program
Reducing the cost to participate in recreational, educational and cultural activities for low income West Covina youth.
Senior Citizens Assistance Program (SCAP) - City of West Covina
Offering a comprehensive program of social services for preventative health services,
education and advocacy, through the West Covina Senior Center and home visits, to address the needs of older adults.
Senior Meals Program - City of West Covina
Serving nutritious balanced meals, building support groups and providing social opportunities to participating seniors through the West Covina Sr. Citizens Center.
Emergency Food and Shelter - ESGV Coalition for the Homeless
Supplying emergency food, transportation, housing, clothing, hygiene kits, social
services and emergency assistance to homeless and indigent persons.
Food Outreach - Gospel Life Ministries
Giving bags of staple food items and hosting seminars related to family related problems, health, nutrition and education to low income people, including the elderly, new immigrants, veterans and homeless.
Fair Housing - Fair Housing Council of San Gabriel Valley
Resolving housing concerns for residents through education and housing mediation to
the community.
Youth Services - Future America
Promoting positive self-development and providing alternatives to community and underprivileged youth through recreational, social, artistic and employment opportunities.
Interfaith Caregivers
Training volunteers to assist primary caregivers within the local community through annual training sessions.
Marion Homes - Gabriel House
Educating women with developmental disabilities on reading, communication skills and life management skills.
Project Sister - Sexual Assault Crisis and Prevention Services
Reducing the incidence and trauma of sexual assault through bilingual crisis intervention therapy, counseling and prevention education services.
Telephone Reassurance for Homebound - RUOK
Reassuring the frail and elderly and their family members with free phone calls regarding daily status in the language of their choice.
Services for Persons with Handicaps - Service Center for Independent Living
(SCIL)
Locating personal care attendants, housing referrals, individual and
group peer counseling, independent living skills training, interpreters for
the deaf and hard of hearing, information and referral services and
individual systems advocacy to enable persons with disabilities to live
independently.
Food Outreach - United Food Pantry
Feeding the low income and homeless, with enough food for four days, on a monthly basis.
Food Outreach - West Covina Community Food Bank
Distributing free food and other staples to low and moderate-income persons.
Women's and Children's Shelter (WINGS) - YWCA
Encouraging battered women by providing emergency shelter, 24 hour help line, domestic violence, housing, employment and community support resources.
