ACCOUNT CLERK
Job Summary
Under general supervision, prepares and maintains financial records, including billing, purchasing, collection and accounts payable; may perform payroll related duties; performs general clerical duties and related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Posts, tabulates, audits and calculates financial data; balances account records.
- Prepares, sorts, maintains and verifies a variety of records.
- Indexes and files documents, such as bills, invoices, vouchers, requisitions, purchase orders, and payroll records.
- Performs departmental payroll duties, accounts payable and receivable as assigned.
- Performs arithmetic calculations including discounts, fees, charges, penalties, hourly rates, amounts to be paid or owing, using established standards and guidelines.
- Researches orders, errors and discrepancies; reconciles accounts.
- Operates adding machines, calculators and computers to enter, calculate and retrieve data.
Non-essential Functions
- Prepares a variety of financial statements and statistical reports.
- Answers questions via phone or counter contact regarding billing, complaints or service.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledges and Abilities
Basic arithmetic; financial posting and record keeping; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; read, interpret, and make routine decisions in accordance with establishes policies, regulations, and ordinances.
Experience: Two years of clerical experience which included maintenance of records. Use of computer terminal and adding machine in conjunction with record keeping desirable.
Skills: Keyboard (typing) at minimum of 35 words per minute.
