ASSISTANT COOK

Job Summary

Under supervision, this position assists the Cook with the planning and preparation of meals at the Senior Center and performs other related duties in the maintenance of the kitchen.

Essential Functions
  1. Assists with meal planning, food buying and preparation of meals at the Senior Center.

  2. May supervise kitchen staff in the preparation and serving of meals.

  3. Serves food at the counter.

  4. Assists with kitchen clean up and maintenance.

  5. Sets up and moves equipment as necessary.

  6. Interacts with staff and the public utilizing the senior center.

  7. May perform other duties in support of the Community Services Department as assigned including but not limited to: city-wide events, day care, youth and adult sports, teen programs, recreation classes, aquatics, facility management, senior citizen programs, and other related services.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

Laws rules, and regulations related to meal planning, preparation and kitchen safety and the planning and preparation of meals.

Skills:

Possess clear verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to:

Effectively communicate with all levels of the public, including senior citizens, and those with special needs, City staff, and management, as well as, outside community, health, safety and government organizations.

Education and Experience Guidelines

Qualifying for consideration in the selection process will be based on the description listed above under Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, and any combination of education and experience as described below.

Education: High School Diploma or GED is required. Related coursework in nutrition, food preparation, and food service is desirable but not required.

Experience: One-year experience working in the food service or restaurant industry is required.

Licenses/Certificates

A valid California Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record is preferred but not required.

Physical Profile - Category II:

Positions in this category require moderate physical exertion associated with the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or climb, which involve the safeguarding of individuals, public and property.
