COMPUTER SERVICES TECHNICIAN
Job Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of specialized duties in connection with the operation and maintenance of the City's information systems.
Essential Functions
- Provides technical assistance to users for personal computer operations utilizing word processing, desktop publishing, database, graphics, spreadsheet, and other City utilized application programs, and operating systems.
- Assists in the installation and maintenance of all computer hardware and software applications in City Hall and other City owned facilities excluding the Police Department.
- Performs technical testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of personal computer related hardware and software malfunctions for all departments except Police.
- Updates and monitors programs and data files to assure efficient and economical operation and storage use.
- Writes and maintains documentation pertaining to computer applications.
- Develops graphs, spreadsheets, and customized reports for various user departments as needed.
- May assist with HP mainframe and printer operations; and acts as backup to HP system in absence of supervisor.
- May supervise daily operations in absence of supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledges:
Knowledge of the operations, uses and capabilities of electronic computer equipment, including both personal computers and HP mainframe and printer operations; knowledge and skill in good customer service practices; knowledge of a variety of software applications such as Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect, Harvard Graphics, Windows, MS DOS and other relational database software.
Experience: One year of responsible experience working with both personal and mainframe computer hardware systems, as well as a variety of software applications. Exposure to networking systems highly desirable.
Education: Associate's degree or equivalent in Computer Science
or computer Information Systems or closely related field.
Vocational training in computers may be substituted for degree if
core courses are comparable. Additional qualifying work
experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on
a year-for-year basis.
Licenses: Possession of or ability to obtain valid Class 3 California Driver's License.
