DAY CARE TEACHER
Job Summary
Under administrative direction, assists in planning, supervising, coordinating and implementing the activities of the day care program and does related work as required.
Essential Functions
- Assists in planning, coordinating and implementation of activities in the day care program.
- Responsible for training and evaluating part-time personnel in the day care program.
- Provides direct supervision of Assistants working in the day cares.
- Plans, organizes and conducts programs for the children at the day care center.
- Works closely with parents to promote an understanding of growth and development of their child.
- Participates in assessment and evaluation of ongoing departmental requirements.
- Prepares routine and special reports.
- Participates in the promotion of department activities.
- Responsible for maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
- May perform other duties in support of the Community Services Department as assigned including but not limited to: city-wide events, day care, youth and adult sports, teen programs, recreation classes, aquatics, facility management, senior citizen programs, and other related services.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Leadership and educational techniques and methodology including evaluation, planning, organizing, and conducting activities for children ages K-12 years of age in a day care program.
Skills:
Must possess good oral communication skills.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively with children ages K - 12 years of age and their parents; establish and maintain effective working relations with staff and the public; supervise and train staff; lead and instruct a wide range of activities.
Education and Experience Guidelines
Qualifying for consideration in the selection process will be based on the description listed above under Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, and any combination of education and experience as described below.
Education: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and a minimum of 6 units at an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education/Child Development is required. Upon hire, must show continuous enrollment in ECE/CD until 12 units have been completed.
Experience: One-year experience as a teacher of children such as teacher's aide, assistant, student intern or other comparable experience including six months work experience in a licensed day care center is required.
Licenses/Certificates
A valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
Possession of an American Red Cross or any other Community Services Department approved accredited certification in First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer is required.
Physical Profile - Category II
Positions in this category require moderate physical exertion associated with the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or climb, which involve the safeguarding of individuals, public and property.
