ENGINEERING AIDE
Job Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of entry-level subprofessional work in the Engineering/Building office related to municipal engineering and/or building activities; performs responsible office and public relations work involving conferring with the general public regarding engineering, public works and building projects.
Essential Functions
- Assists the public both at the counter and on the telephone with issuing all types of building/engineering permits; plan submittals, valuation and permit fees.
- Resolves a variety of questions/complaints over the telephone and at the public counter.
- Provides job specific information to contractors and to the general public.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on a variety of construction activities.
- Prepares a variety of reports, charts, graphs, and other written documentation utilizing numerous computer programs for City Council reports and presentations.
- Processes invoices for contractor payments.
- Records and logs in all Miscellaneous Cash receipts (M.C.R.) .
- Prepares quarterly billing of utility company permits and microfiche information.
- Sets up pre-construction meetings between contractor, utility companies and the City; verifies that all involved have copies of plans and are accessible to each other.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledges
General knowledge of practices and procedures related to problems and projects encountered in the field of engineering, public works, and/or municipal building; knowledge of the methods and practices of a modern building or engineering department; knowledge of good customer service practices, and knowledge of modern office equipment and methods.
Experience:
One (1) year experience in a municipal department dealing with permit issuance; or
Three (3) years increasingly responsible clerical experience which included heavy public contact providing a variety of information.
Education:
College coursework in engineering is highly desirable.
