Medical Sharps (used hypodermic needles) 

Beginning on September 1, 2008, State law makes it illegal to dispose of sharps waste in the trash or recycling containers, and requires that all sharps waste be transported to a collection center in an approved sharps container. 

The City of West Covina and LA County Public Works have partnered together to bring the Home-Generated Sharps Waste Management Program to our residents in order to help them comply with this new law. "Home-generated sharps waste" means hypodermic needles, pen needles, lancets and other devices that are used to penetrate the skin for delivery of medications at home. 


The City of West Covina has two empty Sharps container distribution sites: 

• West Covina Senior Citizens Center
  2501 E. Cortez Ave. 
• City Maintenance Offices
  825 S. Sunset Ave..

Filled Sharps Container Collection Site for West Covina Residents Only:

NOTE: As of December 1st, 2009 Fire Station #1 located at 819 S. Sunset Ave. is no longer a Sharps container collection site.
