The daughter of one of West Covina's orange grove families, Erin Hoppe is a West Covina native. She has lived in West Covina her entire life, attended West Covina public schools and is a graduate of West Covina High School. She attended college locally and has completed many specialized courses in the field of Risk Management during her career. She has one son, Kenny, who also resides in West Covina. Her hobbies include gardening and camping.
Ms. Hoppe began her career with the City of West Covina Finance Department in 1975. In 1979 she transferred into Risk Management, and held the position of Risk Manager from 1989 until 1998. In 1998, as part of a citywide reorganization, Risk Management and the Human Resources Department merged. In 2001, the City Council acted to reinstate Risk Management as a stand-alone department and Ms. Hoppe was appointed to the newly created position of Director of Risk Management.
Her responsibilities include the administration of comprehensive loss prevention programs that incorporate current practices and philosophies that are most effective in preventing injuries, vehicular collisions, liabilities, and damage to equipment and materials. The Department provides consultation and management services in the areas of workers' compensation; general and auto liability; insurance procurement; employee insurance benefits, including life, long term disability, and State Disability; employee safety; uninsured losses; and public loss prevention.
Ms. Hoppe is a member of the Public Agency Safety Management Association, Public Agency Risk Management Association, National Public Risk and Insurance Management Association, and Council of Self-Insured Public Agencies.
