NOTICE OF CITY OF WEST COVINA
ACCEPTING COMMISSION APPLICATIONS

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of West Covina is accepting applications for consideration of appointment to the newly formed:

PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION

Applications will accepted through May 15, 2008.

ABOUT THE COMMISSION AND COMMISSIONERS: The Public Arts Commission consists of a total of seven members, five of which will be appointed by the City Council and two being current Planning Commissioners who will serve on both commissions concurrently. The primary responsibility of the new Public Arts Commission will be to oversee the City's Art in Public Places Program, reviewing and rendering decisions regarding art in public places applications. Additionally, the Commission will also serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council on issues involving the visual and performing arts. The Commission will have one regular meeting per month on a day and time yet to be determined.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be residents of the City of West Covina and must be at least 18 years of age. It is preferred and highly desirable that applicants possess a background, training, education, and/or other professional experience in the arts. Failure to possess any such qualifications, however, shall not exclude a person from appointment.

APPOINTMENT PROCESS: The City of West Covina invites interested persons to submit an application to serve on the Commission. Each City Councilmember has the power to appoint one individual to the Commission, however, Councilmembers are not bound to utilize the application process to make their individual appointment.

Application forms are available on the City of West Covina's website at www.westcovina.org/council/commissions2.html or in the Office of the City Clerk, 1444 W. Garvey Avenue. Room 317, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, holidays excepted.
