Notice of Vacancy - Community Services Commission
The Mayor and City Council appoint members of the community to serve on the City's various commissions to ensure that a wide cross-section of the community is represented in city government. The five City Commissions are:
- Community Services Commission
- Human Resources Commission
- Planning Commission
- Senior Citizens' Commission
- Public Arts Commission (newly formed and accepting applications - read details here)

Community Services Commission
Works with the City Council on matters that pertain to the community service needs of the citizens of West Covina relating to (a) public recreational services, (b) cultural activities and special events, (c) youth services, (d) public transportation, (e) neighborhood and human relations and (f) human rights.

Human Resources Commission
The Human Resources Commission was created by the City Council to review the recruitment and selection process for the classified service, hold hearings and make other recommendations on any matters of personnel administration when requested by the City Council or the City Manager, among other duties.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission prepares, adopts and recommends to the City Council a comprehensive long-term plan for the physical development of the City, known as the City of West Covina General Plan. The Commission also acts as the advisory agency of the City Council in connection with the administration of the State Map Act.

Senior Citizens' Commission
The Senior Citizens' Commission was created by the City Council to aid and advise the City Council in the identification of the needs of the senior population of West Covina and recommend policies and programs to meet those needs. In addition, the commission fosters and enhances within the community the recognition of the contributions of senior citizens to the community.
