Steve Herfert "A Voice of the People":
Steve was the second of five children born to Bob and Elaine Herfert. He learned family values and service to others from his parents. He received his education through the West Covina Unified School District, Mt. San Antonio College, and Cal Poly Pomona.
From his early days of playing in West Covina Recreation programs, Steve developed a desire to help people enjoy their idle time. He became a role model and leader on the playgrounds of West Covina. He realized it was smarter "to build children than to repair adults".
In 1990, Steve was elected to the West Covina City Council. In his three terms on the Council, Steve has taken leadership roles in all facets of government, particularly public safety, environmental issues, recreation, and youth programming. Steve has been a creative leader who has accepted and successfully completed many challenges. He believes taxpayers have been overburdened, and he seeks relief in the form of tax credits and reductions. He believes in less government regulation and the concept of cities and schools working more closely together (community schools).
As Mayor this year, Steve will focus on three areas of need in West Covina. Parks, Senior Citizens, and the construction of a gym/swimming pool.
