GALSTER PARK DEDICATION CEREMONY

WEST COVINA, CA - The City of West Covina is pleased to announce the dedication ceremony for the restoration of hiking trails and recreational facilities at Galster Park.

The Galster family deeded 42 acres of parkland to the City of West Covina in the 1960's. In 1971, the park's planned campground and hiking trails improvements were completed, and the park was formally dedicated.

In 2002, the City received funding grants from county and state agencies to contribute towards park improvements. In 2003, conceptual design work began to update the Galster Park Master Plan and in March 2005 the Planning Commission and Community Services Commission recommended approval of the updated Master Plan to the City Council.

On April 19, 2005, the City Council approved the Master Plan and a number of enhancements have now been completed. These enhancements include restoration of the existing hiking trails and facilities, and the development of the park's wilderness habitats to encourage public educational participation and enjoyment.

Significant funding for the improvements was provided by grants from the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy through Proposition 40 Park Bonds approved by the voters of the State of California; the Land and Water Conservation Fund; and the Los Angeles County Regional Open Space and Park District.

In the coming months, the City will also add a Nature Center that will facilitate wilderness education and outdoor experiences through the San Gabriel Mountains Regional Conservancy.

The City of West Covina would like to invite all residents and businesses to attend the Galster Park Dedication Ceremony where families will enjoy outdoor activities, snacks, and free give aways to the first 100 people.
