ATTENTION LANDLORDS
FREE FAIR HOUSING WORKSHOP
WEST COVINA, CA - The Housing Rights Center (HRC), and the City of West Covina, will be hosting a free Fair Housing Workshop for landlords and housing providers on:
Thursday, May 31, 2007
6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
West Covina City Hall
1444 W. Garvey Avenue
West Covina, CA 91790
see Flyer
HRC will present information and resources regarding the fair housing laws, protected classes, unlawful housing discrimination practices and landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities.
Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, known as the "Fair Housing Act," provides protection from discrimination in all housing related transactions based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status and disability.
Furthermore, in California the Fair Employment and Housing Act provides additional protections against housing discrimination based on marital status, ancestry, sexual orientation, and source of income. The California Unruh Civil Rights Act also protects from housing discrimination based on
age and protects the right to freedom from violence and intimidation in housing.
The Fair Housing Workshop seeks to inform and educate landlords and housing
providers in West Covina and surrounding communities about the fair housing laws, what is unlawful under fair housing laws, and how to prevent housing discrimination.
Other topics shall include tenant - landlord rights and responsibilities, rent increases, evictions, notices and more. The Workshop will also provide available services and resources offered by the Housing Rights Center.
For more information, or to RSVP for this FREE workshop, please call Yvonne at (800) 477-5977 extension 19.
