CORTEZ PARK DEDICATION CEREMONY

WEST COVINA, CA - The City of West Covina is pleased to announce a dedication ceremony, to be held on Friday, October 26, 2007 for the Cortez Park walking trail extension. The dedication ceremony is open to all residents and businesses. Join us for a twilight view of the park an hot dog barbecue.

The new walking trail extends up and loops around the lush knoll at the southeasterly corner of the park. From the elevated knoll, the trail offers pleasant vistas of the rest of Cortez Park The new trail also connects the Senior Center and the southern parking lot of the park to the existing walking trail, greatly improving pedestrian access to the park.

The City Council approved the expenditure of $160,000 in General Fund reserves for irrigation and landscaping improvements, as well as the installation of security lighting. In addition, the City received a grant of $150,000 from Los Angeles County for the construction of the walking trail, along with the installation of benches, a picnic shelter, and increased security lighting.
