CITY OF WEST COVINA ANNNOUNCES
NEW FIRE CHIEF

WEST COVINA, CA - The City of West Covina has announced the appointment of a new Fire Chief, Paul Segalla, to replace retiring Chief Richard Elliott.

Fire Chief, Paul Segalla Mr. Segalla, who was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, comes to West Covina with a wealth of experience. Prior to accepting the job offer for West Covina, Segalla had the responsibility of overseeing training of all new fire officers for the State of Illinois, as the Associate Fire Education Specialist. He also served as Fire Chief for the Lockport Township Fire District; Deputy Chief of Downers Grove Fire Department; Lieutenant of the Aurora Fire Department; and, as a Firefighter for Downers Grove Fire Department where he was promoted to Fire Captain---all of the foregoing agencies are located in the Chicago Metropolitan area.

Segalla's experience as a Firefighter and Fire Chief is complemented by his Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Fire Protection and a Master's degree in Public Administration.

Segalla has two daughters who are attending college in Chicago. He will be coming to California with his wife and an 8 year-old son. When asked what he enjoys in his spare time away from the job, without hesitation he replied, "spending time with my son, bicycling and coaching his soccer team." He also is a big fan of professional Ice Hockey.

When talking with new Chief Segall, you cannot help but notice his sincere passion for fire service. When asked what his first priority on the job will be, when he begins January 7, 2008, Segalla replied, "One of my immediate priorities will be to continue and enhance the excellent working relationship with the Fire Department personnel and the community. It is important that we have a good working team."

Segalla intends to immediately become a part of the community by getting involved in service clubs and will be looking for other opportunities to meet residents. He wants the residents to know, "though I am a leader of the West Covina Fire Department, I consider myself one of the team who has the primary goal to serve all the residents, and continually look for ways to improve services to the community." Segalla will be officially introduced at the February 5, 2008, City Council Meeting when he ceremonially will receive his Fire Chief Badge.

City Manager Andrew Pasmant commented, "We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Chief Segalla's caliber in our city protecting West Covina businesses and residents. I feel equally fortunate to have a Fire Chief who comes highly recommended by our former Fire Chief, Richard Elliott."

The public is invited to meet Mr. Segalla at a reception in the West Covina City Hall Community Room at 6:00pm on February 5, 2008, prior to the City Council Meeting.
