City of West Covina Celebrates Earth Day 2008

WEST COVINA, CA - Join the City of West Covina's Environmental Management Department in celebrating Earth Day on Saturday, April 19th, 2008, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This free event will be held in conjunction with the West Covina Farmers Market located off West Covina Parkway near Vincent Ave (in the Applebee's parking lot). Vendors from different environmental and conservation agencies, along with local community and youth groups, will be on hand to teach and demonstrate how you can make a difference in protecting and preserving our natural resources.

The City's Environmental Management staff will be available to answer questions regarding city services and programs that promote recycling, waste reduction, and various environmental concerns.

In attendance will be representatives from Norm Reeves Honda, Boy Scouts of America, and the new Galster Park Nature Center.

Interested in composting? There will also be information at the event on how you can sign up to participate in a free composting workshop to be held at the West Covina Senior Center on June 14th, 2008, and have the opportunity to purchase reduced-cost compost bins provided by the City.

"Earth Day is one of the amazing opportunities to recognize and understand how the everyday decisions we make in life affect our environment," explains Environmental Management Director Steve Samaniego. "It is a chance to become informed about the issues affecting our region and to learn how individually we can take direct action as part of the solution."

For more information, please visit the Environmental Management Department website at www.westcovina.org/environment or call (626) 939-8411.
