WEST COVINA FIRE DEPARTMENT OFFERS C.E.R.T. TRAINING

WEST COVINA, CA - The City of West Covina will be offering Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) training beginning on June 7, 2008.

C.E.R.T. training is a program to instruct citizens on what they need to prepare for disasters. The three-day class teaches the students how they can assist themselves, their families, and their neighborhoods after an earthquake or similar emergency. The class offers both lecture and hands on training in disaster preparation, use of a fire extinguisher, disaster medical care, Light Search and Rescue, and Team Building.

C.E.R.T. is a nationwide all-risk preparedness program supported by the Department of Homeland Security. "With the recent disasters in Myanmar and China, we have seen increased interest from the citizens on what they need to do to prepare. This class teaches you all the basics you will need to safeguard your family" as stated by Fire Captain Jim Rudroff.

City of West Covina Fire Department personnel will teach the program. The program will run from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7; Saturday, June 14; and Saturday, June 21, 2008. Students must attend all three-class days to receive a certificate. Students must be at least 18 years of age. The fee for the class is $10.00.

For further information or applications, contact the West Covina Fire Department at (626) 338-8800 or visit the C.E.R.T. page.
