Title:Recreation Assistant

Job Summary
Under general supervision, assists in planning, organizing and conducting adult and children's recreational activities, and does related work as required.
Distinguishing Details
Essential Functions
  1. Interacts with and assists in the supervision of youth in games and activities and in proper use of playground and equipment apparatus.

  2. Sets up and moves equipment.

  3. Ensures the safety of participants engaged in programs.

  4. Takes registration and attendance.

  5. Gives out routine information.

  6. Handles attendance, inventory and other records.

  7. Assists in the maintenance and cleaning of city facilities.

  8. Acts as a positive role model to youth.

  9. May perform other duties in support of the Community Services Department as assigned including but not limited to: city-wide events, day care, youth and adult sports, teen programs, recreation classes, aquatics, facility management, senior citizen programs, and other related services.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Guidelines

Qualifying for consideration in the selection process will be based on any combination of education and experience as described below.

Education: Completion of high school or GED is preferred but not required.

Experience: Prior or current participation in school sports or other recreational activities required (verified).
Physical Requirements
Physical Requirements
Positions in this category require moderate physical exertion associated with the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or climb, which involve the safeguarding of individuals, public and property. 

This position also requires extensive and repetitive physical activity involving the arms, wrists, and hands, including writing and using a keyboard.  It also requires physical abilities associated with the ability to read, write and communicate in a work environment.
Other / Special Requirements
Licenses/Certificates: 

A valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is preferred but not required.

Special Requirements:

Those under the age of 18 without a High School diploma must have a work permit prior to the first day of employment.

Recreation Assistants working at day care centers must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.
