Title:Senior Citizens Program Coordinator

Job Summary
Under general direction of the Senior Citizens Services Supervisor administers the Senior Citizens Assistance Program and various social services for senior citizens and does related work as required.

Distinguishing Details
Essential Functions
  1. Provides case management work with client and families to develop appropriate care plan based on assessment, diagnosis, and goals.

  2. Coordinates and monitors the information and referral program.

  3. Develops and facilitates support groups and counseling with individuals.

  4. Facilitates health services educational programs and related publicity.

  5. Participates in providing social services, i.e., shared housing, legal aid, senior forms, SSI, Medi-Cal, Medicare, financial, insurance, consumer education, etc.

  6. Supervises Social Service Staff Interns and Volunteers.

  7. Assumes the responsibilities of senior Citizens Center Supervisor in his/her absence.
Qualifications
 Required Knowledges

Through knowledge of principles and techniques used in counseling laws and regulations governing the conduct of social services programs; gerontology and social services concepts; familiarity with the capabilities and limitations of older adults; supervision, training and performance evaluation.

Experience: Two years of full-time paid work experience in a social service agency or municipal government setting, including direct experience with the elderly; case management, counseling, group work and experience in mental health.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in human services, education, social services, recreation or related field. Masters degree desirable.

This position requires extensive and repetitive physical activity involving the arms, wrists, and hands, including writing and using a keyboard.  It also requires physical abilities associated with the ability to read, write and communicate in a work environment requiring no extraordinary physical strength or other special physical qualifications.

Licenses/Certificates:

A valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record are required.
