West Covina City Council Appoints David Carmany as Interim City Manager
WEST COVINA, April 2, 2019 – The City of West Covina is pleased to announce the appointment of David Carmany as Interim City Manager. The appointment was made at the April 2nd City Council Meeting, with Mr. Carmany starting the interim position on April 3, 2019.
In making the announcement, Mayor Pro Tem Tony Wu said, “Dave brings a breadth of experience on issues and opportunities that confront the City of West Covina. He has a proven track record in local government and values active listening and respectful dialogue.”
“It’s an honor to have been selected to serve the West Covina community and I am grateful to the City Council for the opportunity to assist them with the many important issues and challenges ahead, including continuing to safeguard the city’s fiscal health,” said David Carmany.
Wu added, “Mr. Carmany is an experienced City Manager with a proven track record of identifying common-sense solutions to the high-profile problems facing public agencies”.
In January of this year, Mr. Carmany retired after five years as La Puente City Manager, capping a 30-year career in local government. He oversaw a reduction in crime, fostered economic development, and successfully led the City’s effort to secure passage of SB 361, state legislation allowing the transfer of a lighting district from the County of Los Angeles to the City.
Mr. Carmany holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California. He is an alumnus of USC’s Marching Band and mentors next generation City Managers as a member of USC’s City/County Management Fellowship Board.
