We formally invite you to join us...

Interested students can submit an application anytime.  The admission process is on a rolling basis throughout the year.  If you are currently a college student and are interested in utilizing your field of study in an office environment, we encourage you to apply!

When are applications due?

We realize that student schedules vary and that committing time to a new endeavor (that has a rigid schedule) can be difficult.  To that end, we decided to allow students to apply to the iLab on a rolling basis, throughout the year.  Before you apply, we encourage you to verify that you have 8 weeks to spend on a new project.  Of course you wouldn't spend the entire 8 weeks working on the project since you have other time commitments; however, we're only looking to recruit students who "want to prioritize" working on a project that will help grow their skills and allow them to add to their resume.

Why 8 weeks?

We believe 8 weeks provides an ample amount of time for a student to complete a project in relation to their other time commitments.  In our experience, a student's schedule is constantly changing, however, 8 weeks is a reasonable amount of time to complete a project.  In case the project is not completed within 8 weeks, students have the choice to return to the iLab once they have more time or, continue working on their project to completion.

What is the time commitment?

After choosing a project to work on, iLab interns commit the amount of time they're comfortable with.  iLab interns have the option to work within the iLab (located on the 2nd floor of West Covina City Hall in the Fire Administration Office) or they can work remotely.  Overall, the iLab intern is expected to manage their own schedule with the goal of completing the project they had originally suggested within 8 weeks.

Can I work on multiple projects?

Certainly.  If a student believes they're able to commit the time to complete multiple projects within their 8 weeks, we're happy to oblige.  If a student completes one project within their eight weeks and wants to start a new project afterward, we're happy to allow them to start another project that will hopefully be completed within a new 8 week period.

How does the recruitment process work?

After selecting the "Apply Here" link (below) and providing basic information about yourself, accepted candidates will be contacted and asked to fill out a City job application and complete a LiveScan background check.  If you successfully pass your LiveScan background check, you'll set your start date based on your schedule.  Once you start, your 8 weeks will begin and your job is to work toward completing your project.  After you complete your project, you're welcome to continue enhancing your project or suggest a new project you'd like to work on.

If you're ready to move forward, please
