Dear Residents,

On November 19, 2019, I became Mayor of our great City, West Covina. I am honored to take on this position and look forward to continuing to work together to create a proud community for our families. I thank you for your constant support and for your dedication to improving our City. None of these improvements could happen if it was not for your help, as well as, the help of all our City staff and City Council.

We accomplished so much in the last year. Now it is time to set new goals! I look forward to everything WE will accomplish in the year 2020.

       2019 Accomplishments

  • Reformed and restructured city management team to provide effective and efficient services to our residents by replacing with an accountable, competent, and responsive team.
  • Balanced the 2019-2020 budget with accurate numbers and without compromising our public safety.
  • Improved our public safety by settling contracts after having been without them for the last three years. Both our Police and Fire Departments are able to efficiently recruit more staff to protect our community.
  • New code enforcement team was set up to ensure our code ordinance is followed.
  • New businesses and developments were opened in our City, which created jobs, revenue, and more services for our community.
  • New friendly city relationship with Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province located in Northeast China. Harbin has a population of 10 million people and is famously known for their annual Ice and Snow Festival.

              2020 Goals

  • Implement proposed three major developments: West Covina Plaza, Eastland Mall, BKK Landfill site.
  • Attract more businesses and developments along the 10 freeway.
  • Develop a transportation network that will synchronize traffic signal on Azusa Avenue from the 210 through the 10, to the 60 freeway, to allow easier access for residents to utilize Metro and Gold Line. This will allow access to the Ontario Airport and provide an international connection. In addition, we will utilize Foothill Transit Park and Ride Service to connect the West Covina Plaza, Eastland Mall, and The Heights.
  • Begin a West Covina homeless initiative to consolidate our resources to address the homeless population in West Covina to help them seek shelter, services, and the necessary help they need.
  • Improve our public safety by increasing Police Officers from 99 to 120, as well as, bring back Engine #4 to our Fire Department.
  • Revamp our downtown area around Glendora Avenue, to beautify the street, have more services and programs, and to create an attractive hangout hub for our residents.
  • Continue to integrate culture into our City to encourage the private sector to bring events such as Night Market, parades, performing art performances, and other cultural events.
